Concept Artist/Set Design

The concept for this project began when my partner and I were driving back home on a road trip. We listened to this folk song over and over for hours as we came up with fully flushed characters and settings, down to the types of clothes they wear to the way the puppets would be put together. When I looked into the history of the song I discovered that it dates as far back as 1580 as a short story called “A Moste Strange Weddinge of the Frogge and the Mouse” and there have been many different texts and songs since. I loved the idea that this story keeps growing and changing from generation to generation, and when we arrived at home I began drawing the characters. Plans are to turn these drawings into puppets and to design a miniature of the Hollowed Tree Saloon to shoot a short film.
